Homeopathy for Anxiety
Everyone gets nervous or anxious from time to time. For some people, however, anxiety becomes so frequent or so forceful that it takes over their lives.
Common symptoms of anxiety include: - Excessive worrying
- Difficulty concentrating - Sleep Problems - Perfectionism - Headaches - Muscle tension - Fatigue - Trembling - Gastrointestinal problems As a mother of a highly anxious daughter, I understand firsthand how debilitating these symptoms can become. I often have to remind myself to stay calm in the midst of my daughter’s pure panic.
Panic attacks often come on so suddenly in our house that it took me a while to realize something very important - there is no logic involved in a panic attack! While my daughter is fearless roller skating down the biggest hill in our neighborhood or cantering over the fields on the back of a horse, she can get easily overwhelmed in the morning when she has to leave the house to go to school. She often asks, 'Is something going to happen to you, Mommy?' If I reassure her 10, 20, or even 50 times that I will be just fine, she still does not believe me. Over time and with using homeopathy, she has learned to calm herself. I have taught her to think different thoughts, and to speak to herself differently. For example, she now says, “I know the school will tell me if something happens to Mommy.”
Often her urge to control takes over, and it feels like she is trying to control me. She asks me anxiously, "What are your plans for today? Will you leave the house?” She hopes to get a detailed schedule of my day, but I see it for what it is, and I reassure her that I will be fine. At other times she uses the bathroom numerous times before we leave the house. She says, "I have those feelings.” “Those feelings” cause her to ask repeatedly whether or not we will be able to stop and use a bathroom on the way to school. She is unable to stop the incessant fearful thoughts and get in the car to go to school. The questions tumble out of her mouth one after the other. “Where is there a bathroom? What if we can’t find one? What if there is a traffic jam?” she asks. Irrational fears are a common symptom in many of my clients. While some are mild, others are debilitating and take over their life. Homeopathy can help!
Anxiety is different in each person. One person may be afraid of catching a disease or of germs in general, while someone else may be anxious in social settings. Some common fears include fear of the dark, spiders, or thunderstorms. Things that can trigger fears are different for each individual, and the list is endless.
Homeopathic remedies match the individual’s specific symptoms, therefore it’s recommended to consult a trained homeopath for help with chronic anxiety disorders.
As mentioned in an article on the website Homeopathy Plus!, here is a list of common homeopathic remedies that can help with anxiety or nervousness:
" 1. Aconite (Acon.) Aconite is one of the best remedies for waves of fear or outright panic. Symptoms are sudden, intense and may follow a shock such as an accident or natural disaster. The person is agitated, restless, and fearful. They can think they are about to die and may even predict the time of death. Other symptoms may include: dry skin and mouth; thirst; pounding heart. Aconite can also treat ongoing anxiety caused by a past traumatic event. Remember: Rapid onset, intense symptoms, agitation, fear of death, panic attacks. 2. Argentum nitricum (Arg-n.) People who do well with Arg-n may also have strange compulsions and “What if…” thoughts. These can include things such as stepping into a line of traffic, throwing themselves from a height, or poking something into a power outlet. Anxiety worsens with overheating and they feel better in cool fresh air and away from crowds. Remember: Apprehension and anxiety. Strange imaginings and “what if …” thoughts. Craving for sugar.
